# Prepare a move-in checklist before choosing a rental

A move-in date is useful only when the home, access and handover arrangements are ready for that date.

## Confirm availability and handover separately

Ask when the property becomes available and when you could actually receive access. A current occupant leaving, cleaning and repairs may be separate steps. Describe your intended move-in week and ask what still needs to happen. Write down an unconfirmed date as a question. A viewing request does not reserve a home or confirm a handover.

## Check the route for people and belongings

Walk from the entrance to the home. Look at stairs, lift access, corridor widths and the place where a vehicle can stop. If a lift exists, ask about moving large items and whether a booking or building arrangement is needed. Measure key openings with permission. A floor number alone does not tell you whether a wardrobe or someone with limited mobility can reach the door.

## List what must be usable on day one

Identify the services that matter immediately: water, electricity, phone reception and an internet arrangement if you work from home. Ask what is already active, what you must arrange and whom to contact. Do not infer service availability from a router or meter in a photo. An unanswered connection question belongs in the checklist rather than in a promise to your household.

## Separate included items from your own move

For a furnished home, review an inventory. For an unfurnished home, note the fixtures that stay and the equipment you will bring. Plan the essentials for the first evening before buying extras. Keep transport, delivery and access questions separate from the monthly rent. Record who confirmed each detail so you can ask the right person if arrangements change.

## Prepare a small handover pack

Bring the agreed contact details, a room checklist and a way to record permitted photos. Check access, keys, visible condition and the listed items together. Note unresolved work with a clear description and the next contact. Keep copies of important records in your own files; the website tool does not save them for you. Recheck the date shortly before the move because a planning conversation is not a guarantee that nothing will change.

Ask about the needed arrangement before booking deliveries. A checklist works best when each item has a next question and the person who can answer it, rather than one broad “ready” label.
